Chapter Thirteen

Sleep didn’t come easy that night. The adrenaline from sneaking into Arlo’s mansion and successfully getting the files had me wide awake and practically twitching.

We’d all decided to spend the night at the den, and we’d brought down Amy’s mattress and put it next to the couch that Hallie slept on, while Mia, Emily, and I were on the mattress. Hallie’s arm was hanging down and draped over my chest, while Mia and Emily were cuddled into me on either side.

The mattresses were sizable, but not big enough for all four of us, so Hallie was happy taking the couch. Apparently, she’d had to sleep over at her job more times than she’d like to admit, and the couches in the office were as hard as bricks, so sleeping on ours was like sleeping on a cloud in comparison.

Listening to each of the women breathing deeply managed to calm my mind eventually. It wasn’t much sleep, but a couple of hours were better than nothing.

When I woke up, I sent Victor the addresses for the properties Mia had bought, and the old businessman told me he’d get guards sent out right away. He seemed to be a bit more open to the idea now that he knew the full extent of what was going on, but I still wanted to properly prove it to them.

Today was the day where we’d prove it to everyone. Not just my board of directors, but the other packs who’d signed the treaty, too.

There was just one thing we needed to do first.

The wolf we’d imprisoned in the warehouse in Midtown was our other key piece of evidence, and if we were going to use him to show the other packs what Arlo was planning, then we’d need a verbal confession.

Obviously, I didn’t want to drag him out of his cell and around town and get him to repeat the same spiel over and over again. That left one other option.

If we recorded his confession, then we could use that video to show the other packs and save ourselves a hell of a lot of time.

We’d need to get the board down to the warehouse and witness it firsthand, but the other packs would have to deal with it being on a phone and not in the flesh.

Since I knew Victor was awake, I sent him another text telling him to bring the other members of the board to the warehouse in Midtown as soon as possible, and after a hasty reply, I finally forced myself off the mattress.

Mia and Emily stirred as I did, and they both slowly started to wake up.

“Mm, what time is it?” Emily groaned.

“Time to take down the Guild of the Silver Claw,” I drawled dramatically. “Victor’s gonna meet me at the warehouse with the board. I’m gonna get Henry to confess, and then we can start convincing each treaty pack.”

“I’m coming with you,” Hallie said and limply raised her hand in the air with her eyes still closed.

“You can stay here and rest if you need to, Hallie,” I chuckled.
